Francesco Akira Details Fractured Wrist Injury, Notes That Post-Surgery Was Some Of The Worst Pain He’s Experienced

Francesco Akira is looking ahead to his eventual return.
It was at Revolution Pro Wrestling’s Global Wars U.K. show that Francesco Akira went one-on-one with TNA X Division Champion Leon Slater.
During the bout, Akira suffered an injury, which was later revealed as a fractured right wrist. He’s since undergone a successful surgery.
Akira provided an update on the post-surgery recovery in his NJPW blog. He shared that the injury happened when he performed a poisonrana onto Slater, but slammed his wrist hard onto the mat.
At first, Akira did not notice the injury, but after performing another move, he immediately knew something was off. He traveled to his home country of Italy to have surgery.
Akira noted that after the anesthesia wore off, he felt some of the worst pain he’s ever experienced. It brought him to tears.
He noted that it’s the biggest injury he’s had in his 12 years as a wrestler, but he’ll recover from it and return to New Japan Pro-Wrestling. Akira is a three-time IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champion in NJPW and last wrestled for the promotion in June as part of the Best of the Super Juniors tour.
