Frank Thomas Threatened To Sue Jake Hager For $5 Million Over 'Big Hurt' Nickname

Jake Hager had a less than pleasant interaction with an MLB Hall of Famer.

During the latest episode of his Talk Is Jericho podcast, the self-proclaimed Wizard of AEW welcomed his Jericho Appreciation Society to detail the formation of the group. During the conversation, Jake Hager revealed that longtime Chicago White Sox slugger Frank Thomas, a.k.a. 'The Big Hurt', threatened to sue him for $5 million after posting a photo of himself wearing a New York Rangers jersey that said 'Big Hurt' on the back.

Matt Menard: "I used the name 'Big Magic' before. I remember you said, 'I don't want to use big,' because you wanted to use 'big' for something else."

Chris Jericho: "Big Hurt. You're not big. [Hager] is big. He's the big guy in the group."

Matt Menard: "Wait, Frank Thomas sued you?"

Jake Hager: "Your dad [Jericho's dad] gave us the jerseys, New York Rangers, and it had 'Big Hurt' on the back of it. I posted a caption on [Instagram] with the caption 'Big Hurt.' Chris texted me and said, 'I like this.' I said, 'Thanks, can you help me get it over?' Next thing you know, we're getting sued by Frank Thomas for $5 million. It was a threat to sue for $5 million. We hadn't done any merchandise, we had just talked about it. We even said, 'Why don't you come on Dynamite and wrestle me for it?'"

Chris Jericho: "You're a baseball player, you're not hurting anybody. Frank Thomas, go fuck yourself. [laughs]."

Jake Hager: "We made you current, Frank."

The photo in question is no longer posted on Hager's Instagram account.

The Jericho Appreciation Society is set to face Eddie Kingston, Santana, Ortiz, Jon Moxley, and Bryan Danielson in an Anarchy in the Arena match this Sunday at Double or Nothing. You can view the updated card for the event by clicking here.
