The challenge was issued after things got out of hand between the two during their tag team bout at the event. In the match, Kiyomiya delivered a hard kick to the face of Okada, which upset "Rainmaker." Okada snapped and began punching and kicking Kiyomiya on the outside, leading to the referee declaring the bout between Okada & Togi Makaba against Kiyomiya & Yoshiki Inamura a no contest.

It is unknown if Okada vs. Kiyomiya will be made official.

The two men were on opposite sides of the ring at NJPW/NOAH Wrestle Kingdom 16 In Yokohama Arena with Okada teaming with Hiroshi Tanahashi to defeat Kiyomiya & Keiji Muto.

In other champion vs. champion news, GHC Junior Heavyweight Champion Amakusa challenged the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion Hiromu Takahashi during a backstage segment. Takahashi accepted the bout, but it has not been made official.
