Goldberg On His Future In Wrestling: They Owe Me A Retirement Match, Never Say Never

Goldberg comments on potentially returning to the ring.

The WWE Hall of Famer has come back for sporadic runs multiple times in recent years; he challenged Drew McIntyre for the WWE Championship at Royal Rumble 2021, and he faced Bobby Lashley at SummerSlam and Crown Jewel that same year. After a brief absence, he returned for a short feud with Roman Reigns, and he challenged "The Tribal Chief" for the Universal Championship at Elimination Chamber 2022. Fightful Select previously reported that the rumors that Goldberg signed a new contract at the end of 2022 "would be news to his reps," and he has remained absent from the wrestling world.

In an interview with Justin Barrasso of Sports Illustrated, asked if he would consider one more match. He responded by saying that you "never say never" before he shared his belief that WWE owes him a retirement match. Goldberg also noted that he's not necessarily waiting by the phone for a call, but he has a few ideas, such as a retirement mach in Israel.

“You never say never, especially in wrestling, and they owe me one,” says Goldberg. “That’s all I can say. I made a deal with the devil and I did my job, and they owe me a retirement match. At the end of the day, at 56, it’s not something where I’m sitting by the phone waiting for a call. I’ve got a few ideas of how to do it on my own, possibly in Israel. So never say never," Goldberg said.

The WWE Hall of Famer also discussed the fans' support. He noted that he wouldn't say he owes them everything, but he wasn't far from that stance either. The legend made it clear that he is honored to be remembered and supported by the passionate fans, and he appreciates his place as a part of the WWE Universe.

“The tenacity of wrestling fans is unparalleled. I’m not going to sit here and say that I owe them everything, but I sure as hell am close. It’s an honor to be remembered and supported by such a group of people. There is such a fever pitch in the passion of the fans. To be part of that, I’m blessed," Goldberg said.
