Goldberg Reveals He Suffered Broken Hand In Retirement Match At WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event

Goldberg further speaks about his retirement match.
It was on July 12th that Goldberg had what was billed as his retirement match. It took place in his adopted hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, and he challenged GUNTHER for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at Saturday Night’s Main Event.
Goldberg has since made several media appearances to discuss the match and how he felt things turned out, both in terms of presentation and in-ring performance. He did so again on his CarCast podcast. He revealed that he suffered a broken hand at some point during the bout against GUNTHER. As for how he’s feeling present day, he said his shoulder and neck are fine, and his knee is not worse than it was before.
“Oh yeah, yeah (I feel good physically following the retirement match). You can’t really tell but, my hand, I broke my hand, at some point in that match and I think today’s the first day I can see veins back in my hand. It’s not nearly as swollen as it was. That and… shoulder didn’t hurt, neck didn’t hurt. My knee isn’t worse.”
He spoke highly of the reigning World Heavyweight Champion and said the retirement match could not have been done without him. Goldberg did mention that all he’s heard is people complaining about him complaining in his post-retirement match media appearance with Ariel Helwani.
“All I hear is people complaining about me complaining and not many have reached the fact that it was the second-longest match I ever did in my life at 58 years old. Now, I could not have done it without GUNTHER. That kid is freakin’ unbelievable. I mean, it was a wonderful opportunity to be in the ring with him, and an honor, and I couldn’t have done it without him. Your limitations are yourself and your dance partner, and he made it happen so, it was awesome. I had a good time.”
Further speaking about GUNTHER, he said GUNTHER hung around after the show to chat with him. Goldberg stated that GUNTHER has class.
“GUNTHER stayed 30 minutes to an hour afterwards, after I was talking to all my friends in the room in the back. That kid’s got class. He’s got a lot of class. I can’t say enough good things about him, and hopefully his future is filled with nothing but awesome stuff so, it couldn’t have been done without him.”
Elsewhere during the podcast, Goldberg touched on his post-match speech being cut from the NBC and Peacock feeds. He said, to an extent, he knew it was going to happen, and he will open up more about it soon.
“It might as well been a conspiracy because you had six months to plan for it,” Goldberg said about his post-retirement match speech being cut by the NBC and Peacock feeds. “Also, I knew to an extent that was gonna happen because they were silently pushing the social side of it because obviously, you keep people with a cliffhanger on national television and then say that the rest of the speech with be blistered on social media and it’s gonna drive traffic if people care about what it is, and so I knew at some point — but I thought in two minutes, it was gonna go to that, and it didn’t… It went somewhere… It’s bullsh*t, so, I mean, you know, I’ll get into more in about a week.”
The match against GUNTHER was the second-longest match of Goldberg’s career. He lost after GUNTHER choked him out with a sleeper hold.
