Grayson Waller Says Best Wrestling Advice He Ever Got Was From Nigel McGuinness
WWE’s Grayson Waller says the best advice he’s ever gotten was from AEW’s Nigel McGuinness.
Grayson Waller is a student of professional wrestling and has a deep love for the sport. As such, there’s no surprise that he would seek out the advice of the legendary former Ring of Honor World Champion and current AEW Collision broadcaster, Nigel McGuinness.
Speaking on the No-Contest Wrestling Podcast, Grayson Waller was asked what the best piece of advice he’d ever received in wrestling was. Waller said it came from Nigel, who told him that he wasn’t convinced he truly had the confidence his character claimed to have.
“Yeah, the best advice I’ve ever got was from Nigel McGuinness a couple of years ago when he was commentating with us. I asked him for some advice on a match. He said, ‘I don’t believe you think you’re the best. I believe that you think you need to train harder and need to learn more. When Muhammad Ali was fighting, he didn’t think that way. When Muhammad Ali was fighting the whole time he was in there, he was the best in the world. He carried him that way, and that’s why he was so good.’
“I think that was fantastic advice, because as wrestlers, there’s always vets around and people better than us, and people have done it longer, and you want to learn and all these things, but like when you’re in the ring, that’s all going to disappear. I think that energy of, ‘I’m better than everyone’ is very dangerous in a good way.”
Nigel McGuinness was briefly a commentator in WWE. He called matches on WWE NXT and WWE NXT UK.
Today, Nigel can be heard calling matches every Saturday for AEW Collision. He’s even returned to the ring sporadically.
