Gunther: I’m Not A Foreign Menace. They Wanted To Put The Flag On Me, I Got Rid Of It Immediately

Gunther doesn’t want to be classified as your typical foreign heel.

Throughout wrestling history, a foreign wrestler has been portrayed as a heel because America. That stereotypical heel hasn’t been quite as prominent over the years, but has still played a role in wrestling. Gunther doesn’t want to be in that category.

“No, I’m not a foreign menace. I always get a little annoyed because they go, ‘He’s just a bad foreigner.’ I try to avoid everything that has to do with the flag. They put it on my trunks when I started out, they really wanted to put the flag on me. I got rid of it as soon as I could because it doesn’t do anything. It’s not 1990 anymore. Today, it’s about the person,” Gunther told Cody Rhodes on What Do You Want To Talk About?

Elsewhere during the interview, Gunther commented on tapping out to Jey Uso. You can find his full comments here.
