Gunther: It's Quite Obvious I Outgrew The Intercontinental Championship, I'm Ready To Make The Next Step

Gunther is ready for the next step.

Gunther is the longest-reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion of all-time and his next title defense is set for WWE Survivor Series against The Miz. Gunther has raised the prestige of the WWE Intercontinental Championship, but he isn't ready to claim that the title should headline night one of WrestleMania 40.

"That's not gonna happen," Gunther told Steve Fall of WrestlingNewsCo when asked about the title headlining WrestleMania 40. Gunther said that Seth Rollins is on a "very good run" with the WWE World Heavyweight Title, and the two main events are pretty much set as "it should be."

He said he realizes that the IC title is the number two title, but he tries to make it feel like the number 1 title in the company. He continued, "But I think there's a ranking system and everything for a reason. I think it's quite obvious that I outgrew the Intercontinental Championship already, I am ready to make that next step."

Gunther has never challenged for the WWE World Heavyweight Title or Undisputed WWE Universal Title.
