Gunther Says Triple H Asked Him About Wrestling Goldberg A Year Before The Match
Goldberg competed in his retirement match at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event on July 12, 2025, facing Gunther.
Gunther was victorious in the match, kicking off his “Career Killer” run that has seen him end the careers of Goldberg, John Cena, and AJ Styles.
On WWE Retrospective, “The Career Killer” revealed that he was approached about the Goldberg match a year before it went down.
“Hunter was asking me about it almost a year before, ‘Do you want to do that?’ ‘Yeah. I want to wrestle Bill Goldberg and I want to have the best match he maybe has ever had.’ In that situation, the only thing I can do is give it my best and make sure it’s the best match possible,” he said.
Goldberg and Gunther shot at angle for a potential match at WWE Bad Blood 2024. Goldberg announced he would be having his retirement match on November 2, 2024.
“The Ring General” will face Seth Rollins at WrestleMania 42.
