Hangman Page Wanted To Work With Brodie Lee, Planted Seeds On BTE

Hangman Page was hoping to work with Brodie Lee prior to his untimely passing.

Lee joined AEW as The Exalted One, leading the Dark Order to new heights as he won the AEW TNT Championship and challenged for the AEW World Championship. Following his tragic passing, the Dark Order continued with Hangman Page not becoming the leader, but becoming a friend.

Speaking to Renee Paquette on Oral Sessions, Page discussed his idea for a feud with Brodie Lee.

"I wanted to," Page replied when asked if there were plans to work with Lee. "A lot of times it feels like what I'm thinking or want to work towards, might not be what that person is thinking or what Tony is thinking, but I'll do a BTE scene and plant a seed and see what kind of reaction it gets. In almost 99 out of 100 cases, I'm pretty confident in the seeds that I plant and the reaction they are going to get. I know that's going to drive where the story goes on TV as well. That's what this company is, let's be honest. AEW exists because of something like Being The Elite where we could have these stupid ass storylines that Ring of Honor and New Japan started influencing the actual wrestling shows or, in a lot of cases, were more popular than the wrestling shows. I remember wrestling in Ring of Honor and people would chant stuff about our BTE storyline. It's why AEW exists, because of those things. I was planting seeds to do something with Brodie because I really wanted to. When he was ill, there were points where I felt like, 'should I keep going in this direction?' It felt like it would have been a disservice to him and all Dark Order, who are incredible people, to not keep going in the only way it made sense, regardless of where we ended up with it. I'm very glad we did that."

Lee (Jon Huber) passed away on December 26, 2020. When Hangman Page won the AEW World Title at Full Gear, he celebrated with The Dark Order.

Elsewhere during the interview, Hangman said he's a little frustrated that he hasn't wrestled since winning the AEW World Title. You can find his full comments by clicking here.

Page is set to defend the AEW World Title against Bryan Danielson at AEW Winter is Coming. Fightful will have live coverage of the show beginning at 8 p.m. ET.
