Cody Rhodes has often said, "wrestling is at its best when it's a buffet." Technical wrestling, high-flying, lucha-libre, hybrid, story-telling, etc... all make up that buffet. But no buffet is complete without dick wrestling.
Leading into All In in September 2018, Hangman Page and Joey Ryan were involved in a famous feud on Being The Elite, which was all about dicks. Hangman is a hung cowboy. Ryan is the king of dong style. It was a match made in BlueChew heaven. It looked like the two would finally settle the score at All In before Ryan's untimely "death." Though Hangman was thought to be the murderer, he had two accomplices who wanted to see him wrestle Joey Janela, not Joey Ryan, at All In.
"I was in the middle of the Joey Ryan thing and we were trying to figure out what we would do for All In. I wanted to wrestle Joey Ryan because if felt natural. I think Matt & Nick were more concerned with wanting me to have a good match, not about dicks. You can [have a good match about dicks] and that's what I like about wrestling, you can have a good match about dicks. I guess in this one occasion, they wanted something a little different and we decided to do something with Joey Janela, which looking back was a great decision. He was on fire and the match was great," said Hangman Page on AEW Unrestricted.
Hangman went on to say that he was surprised Janela didn't die in the match with all the crazy bumps he took.
Janela's death would not have been shocking given Hangman's history, but in the case of Joey Ryan, Hangman didn't exactly get the job done. Ryan was res-erected at All In and got his revenge on Hangman.
"My favorite memory was after I got dick-flipped by Joey Ryan, we had the ten inflatable penises hoist me out and carry me out of the arena," he recalled. "I was laying face up, on my back, and I couldn't see the crowd. I was just listening to how insane it was. That was my favorite moment, knowing we had crafted something over a year that somehow made that weird thing really mean something. When you think about All In, that's an image you think about; me getting carried out by inflatable penises."
Fortunately, Hangman survived wherever the penis druids ended up taking him and is now one-half of the AEW Tag Team Champions.
