An update on two WWE lawsuits.
Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics notes that there is a hearing scheduled on May 29 with WWE’s attorney from Holland & Knight LLP, Tricia R. DeLeon, and Judge Jan Soifer about the default judgment in the WWE lawsuit against the Texas Attorney General.
WWE filed a lawsuit in February to prevent the release of an agreement between WWE and the City of San Antonio.
WWE is seeking from the county court a judgment and injunction to prevent the release of the bidding contract that reveals information, including what the city government gave WWE in exchange for bringing the Royal Rumble to the Alamodome in 2023. WWE states the agreement is a trade secret and contains proprietary information that fits an exemption in Texas’s public information law.
In other WWE lawsuit news, WWE has requested and was granted an extension from the US District Court of DC to respond to a fan lawsuit that claims his hearing was damaged after attending a Smackdown taping in 2022. WWE has until June 3 to respond.
The fan, Richard Bryant, is seeking $15,000 in damages for “traumatic rupture of his right ear drum, bilateral tinnitus, hearing loss in his right ear, psychological harm.” He has accused WWE of negligence and carelessness.
Fightful will provide more information on both lawsuits when available.
