HENARE Thought His Career Was Over After Cage Match, 'A Lot Was In The Air, Contracts Were Up As Well'

HENARE speaks about his nasty injury from February.

At NJPW The New Beginning In Osaka 2024, Bullet Club WAR DOGS battled United Empire in a cage match that was the swan song for the current iteration for United Empire as Will Ospreay was leaving to join AEW.

During the match, HENARE suffered a nasty head wound after a table was thrown at his head by Gabe Kidd. HENARE would be sidelined for three months following the injury.

Speaking on Downunder The Ring, HENARE spoke about his injury.

"It was pretty wild. I legit thought that was it. I legit though, 'I'm bleeding to death. This is it. Let's go out swimming.' The doctors thought it was it. The trainers thought it was it. Went to the hospital, they thought it was it. Will was leaving. United Empire was up in the air and no one knew what was happening. At the same time, contracts were up too. It was a lot of unsure atmosphere with what was going on across the board, not just me. I think I made the right choice. Didn't give up. Didn't give in. I don't recommend anyone else do that," he said. "We did the CT scans. No brain damage, which was a surprise to me and the doctor. It was the bleeding that caused all the damage."

HENARE said if the table hit him a millimeter on either side, it would have been worse.

During his time away, HENARE dropped hints that he might be leaving NJPW.

"It was me legit not knowing which path to take and what to do. On one hand, I had been in Japan for eight years. Maybe it's time to move on or explore some other avenue. At the same time, there was unfinished business. I wasn't ready to leave New Japan. When I came here, I made the promise that I would become NEVER Openweight Champion. Now that I'm here, I'm staying," he said.

HENARE won the NEVER Openweight Title from Shingo Takagi at New Japan Soul.

He is set to compete in the annual NJPW G1 Climax 34 tournament.
