Hikaru Shida Comments On Willie Urbina Mocking Her Accent

AEW celebrated Hikaru Shida's one-year reign as AEW Women's Champion on the May 28 episode of Dynamite by presenting her with a new women's championship.

During the segment, hot mics caught AEW Spanish announcer Willie Urbina on the Fite TV broadcast making fun of Asian accents. Alex Abrahantes asked Willie Urbina to do translation for Shida’s promo, leading to him doing an impression of Shida and making fun of Asian accents. Dasha Kuret and Thunder Rosa were also on commentary for the incident.

AEW quickly took action, firing Urbina the morning after the incident. Tony Khan stated he apologized to Shida after the incident as well.

Shida posted the following comments about the incident on social media, saying, "I didn’t wanna talk about this before my big day, so let me tell you now. I don’t give a shit what other people say about my race because I love it and I proud of it, and because I know which is fool. I don’t even feel anger. So don’t need to worry about me. Thank you."

Shida lost the AEW Women's Championship to Dr. Britt Baker DMD at AEW Double or Nothing, ending her historical reign as champion.
