Hiroshi Tanahashi comments on Wrestle Kingdom 20.
As many fans know, Tanahashi’s retirement match against Kazuchika Okada is set to close the show, which takes place on Sunday, January 4. Some fans are up in arms about this decision, as Wrestle Kingdom is traditionally closed out with the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship match.
Speaking with NJPW’s website for a new interview, Tanahashi commented on the decision.
“If I was champion, I’d be mad! But I think Tsuji and Takeshita will be doing their level best to have the best match on the show. In a way, they’re closing the album and we’re the bonus track. When Inoki retired, the Sasaki and Fujinami title match was on before the ceremony as well.”
Konosuke Takeshita recently stated that he wants to see Hiroshi Tanahashi “beat the hell out of” Okada at Wrestle Kingdom. Check out his full comments here.
