Hiroshi Tanahashi: I’m Tired

Hiroshi Tanahashi wrapped up his legendary career at NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20, facing Kazuchika Okada in his final match.

Tanahashi’s career began in 1999 with NJPW, and he wrestled at least 73 matches each year beginning in 2000. In his final year, he wrestled 148 times, which was the highest number of matches he’s ever had in a singluar year.

After Wrestle Kingdom 20, Tanahashi had a simple message.

“I think if I don’t say this now, I’ll never be able to say it for the rest of my life, so I’ll say it (※in a loud voice) Ahh, ahh, I’m tired! From 2012, for 14 years, I haven’t said I’m tired, so I’ve been stocking up on 14 years’ worth of ‘I’m tired.’ Hah, I’m tired (applause in the venue). Thank you very much,” he said.

After the match, Hiroshi Tanahashi was honored with a ceremony that included appearances by Katsuyori Shibata, Jay White, Tetsuya Naito, Will Ospreay, Kenny Omega, Kota Ibushi, and more.
