Io Shirai is willing to move on from NXT after being one of its staple competitors.
With WarGames around the corner, NXT Superstars are getting ready to put themselves NXT Superstars are getting ready to put their bodies through what would be considered an unfathomable level of pain to most. Io Shirai is no stranger to WarGames or pain. At Halloween Havoc, Io Shirai took a scary bump from one ladder through another.
Now, in a new interview with Sports Illustrated, she is opening up about that scary spot.
"Without thinking about anything, my body was taking bumps on its own and that is why I am a professional. Bumps on ladders are painful of course, but any bump can be painful whether it is off a ladder or in the center of the ring. It is our job to train our body to take those bumps so we do not get injured and that is why it is important to not try what we do at home."
Io also spoke about NXT 2.0. A staple of the black and gold brand, Io says she's the new take on NXT and she still works very closely with Shawn Michaels.
"Since NXT 2.0 debuted, the number of new stars has increased which I have found very fun and exciting. Regarding Shawn, I do still work with and get advice from him which is always extremely helpful."
Io also says she is open to a move to the main roster specifically citing matches with Sasha and Bayley as reasons she'd like to be on Raw and SmackDown. Io had faced Sasha Banks at the 2020 NXT Great American Bash event.
"Of course, I would be open to a move to SmackDown or Raw. The opportunity would present new goals and encounters different from what I have achieved and experienced in NXT. I would like a rematch with Sasha Banks as soon as possible. I also heard Bayley say she wanted to have a match with me and I would definitely relish my first confrontation with her. If it is a title match, even better."
Fightful will have live coverage of the NXT WarGames event as it airs live on Peacock in America and on the WWE Network internationally on December 5.
