It 'Meant The World' To Darby Allin To Be The First Singles Champion In AEW With No WWE Background

Darby Allin is the current All Elite Wrestling TNT Champion. When he defeated Cody Rhodes for the championship at AEW Full Gear 2020, he became the first AEW men's wrestler to win a singles championship without having any prior exposure on WWE television.

Always looking to do things his own way and carve his own path, Darby explained the significance of this achievement in a recent interview with Sports Illustrated.

“That means the world to me,” Allin says. “We have creative freedom here. That’s why I want to be here. I can be real. You need to step up and cross that line, and I’m the embodiment of that for younger talent. I would not want to work anywhere else, period.”

It is Darby's overall goal to make the TNT Championship synonymous with him and his body of work, it is something that he says won't be easy but he is determined to try and make it happen.

“I’m going to create something that is entirely mine, and I’m going to present the championship in a new light,” Allin says. “Work doesn’t end for me on Wednesdays. This is a seven-day life for me. It’s a heavy task to make this title mine, but I’m up for it.”

Most recently, Darby had a once-in-a-lifetime moment when he came face-to-face with Sting on AEW Dynamite. Darby also recently spoke about the comparisons to “The Icon.” Learn more at this link.
