James Ellsworth On His WWE Debut: I Get To The Back, Vince McMahon Wanted To See Me And He Said ‘I Feel Like I Have No Choice But To Hire You’

James Ellsworth says his first promo on WWE television was so great, Vince McMahon immediately hired him.
Speaking with R3 Jonah on Rewind Recap Relive, James Ellsworth talked about his match against Braun Strowman in 2016, where he delivered the “Any man with two hands has a fighting chance” line.
Ellsworth says that the short promo before the bout really sold Vince McMahon on him, and he got hired shortly afterward.
“It was crazy because I’m just there to do an enhancement talent match, like essentially a job. Everything goes so well. I get to the back, and Vince McMahon wanted to see me. Never met this man in my life. I go to see him, and he said, ‘Your facial expressions are great. Your verbiage was great, talking about the promo, and your selling was great. So I feel like I have no choice but to hire you.’ I’m like, ‘What?’ My whole life turned upside down. It was it was the best moment of my life.”
“The story was obviously I’m scared of Braun Strowman, but I’m going to give it a shot anyway. I think the promo told that story very well, and we just were off to the races.”
James Ellsworth and Braun Strowman faced each other on July 25, 2016, where Ellsworth lost in a minute.
