Jaume Collet-Serra In Talks To Direct ‘Black Adam’ Starring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson

It's been five years since Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson was first announced as playing Black Adam, and it appears as though the project is finally ready to move forward.

According to Variety's Justin Kroll, Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows) is in negotiations to direct the New Line picture. The studio has made the film a priority following the success of Shazam!, which performed well both critically and financially.

Collet-Serra just wrapped production on Disney's Jungle Cruise, which Johnson also starred in alongside Emily Blunt. Johnson took to his Instagram to share the news and praise the Spanish filmmaker for his "passion, work ethic, style, vision, tone, and quality".

Adam Sztykiel, who worked with Johnson on Rampage, has written the latest draft.

In recent years DC Comics have turned the character of Black Adam into an anti-hero on a crusade to clear his name and reputation, but it remains unknown if the film will adopt that narrative or lean into his super-villainous origins.

Johnson can next be seen on August 2nd when Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw hits theatres.
