JBL: My Career Would Have Been Lacking If I Hadn't Gotten To Wrestle Booker T For WWE Title

JBL reflects on his 2004 WWE Championship program with Booker T.

During his time as the then-longest-reigning WWE Champion in SmackDown history, John Bradshaw Layfield ran afoul of Booker T, leading to a championship match at the WWE Survivor Series event in 2004. Booker could not wrestle the top prize in WWE away from Bradshaw, but the two Texans enjoyed their time working together, and now, JBL is reflecting on the rivalry.

Speaking on Something to Wrestle, JBL agreed that their rivalry was a "sleeper" portion of his run in the main event and explained why he always enjoyed working with Booker T.

"I was so excited about that, because I love Booker. Booker is one of my best friends, and always has been. I love Booker and Sharmell. I got to work with Hall of Famer after Hall of Famer. Taking the Booke End on the floor. That didn't feel very good," he recalled. "It was great. Booker could be stiff. Now, I want to tell you, Booker could be stiff. But he took it the same way. Booker just loved to play rough. He's a super tough guy, as is well documented, but it was fun out there with him. You could hit him as hard as you want. He didn't care. He's going to hit you back, but you felt like he did something. I was very excited when I got to wrestle Booker in a championship match. That was really cool to me. I think my career would have been missing if I hadn't got to have such a big match like that with somebody with Booker T because Booker T means that much to me."

Elsewhere on the podcast, JBL spoke about the man who ended his championship reign, John Cena. Read Bradshaw's thoughts on Cena here.
