Jessamyn Duke Remembers She & Shayna Baszler Getting Attacked In A Street Fight, Disarming Attackers

Jessamyn Duke recalls the time she and Shayna Baszler were involved in a street fight.

Back when both Duke and Baszler competed in the UFC, the two were actually involved in a street fight with their attackers actually being armed. The two mixed martial artists, now signed to WWE, were able to fend off their attackers and during a Q&A, Duke remembered that incident.

"It was self defense and we were basically jumped in the parking lot of our old gym and by us, I mean Shayna and I and a former roommate of ours, we called bromate. We basically were jumped in the parking lot of the gym after dark and the started the fight but we finished it. There was a weapon involved, not one that we brought out and I quickly disarmed the attacker," Duke said.

Duke even mentioned that she actually got hit and her eyebrow was split open, calling it a scary experience given how the police had to be involved. In a column written by someone who was also present at the time of the incident, she recalled how Duke would tell her, “Hey Vanessa don’t cry. I’d take a baseball bat to the face for you any day and if that’s not love I don’t know what love is."

"It was weird because at the time, Shayna and I were both in the UFC. So, even though we were not in the wrong at all, we did nothing wrong, it was still this very scary thing to go through because we had to call the police. We had to report all of this, we had to explain what happened. There's a very gnarly picture of me with my eyebrow split open because I was cracked in the head with a little shorty bat that someone had pulled out in the fight," Duke said.
