Je’Von Evans Addresses ‘Mr. Bojangles’ Comment By Kevin Nash, ‘I’m Going To Keep Having Fun’
Kevin Nash made headlines recently when he critiqued Je’Von Evans, saying he was “a little too Mr. Bojangles” and that he wanted Je’Von to have more of an edge.
“Mr. Bojangles” is a song based on a street performer in New Orleans, whom Jerry Jeff Walker, the writer of the song, met while in jail. The comments by Nash were viewed as racist and insensitive by many fans.
Speaking to Adrian Hernandez of Unlikely, Je’Von was asked about the comments.
“If you’re not doing anything right, they’re not talking about you. If you’re doing something right or they have your name in their mouth, you’re grinding. Some people have to do that. Just so they can get views or whatever. Either way, at the end of the day, the Young OG is going to keep doing his thing and keep on being Je’Von Evans. No matter who likes it or doesn’t like it. I’m going to keep on having fun. Me being me got me to where I’m at today. Apparently, I’m doing something right because my bosses love me,” he said.
Nash did apologize for using the term “Mr. Bojangles,” calling it offensive and in poor taste, but said that Je’Von would be the “male version of Sol Ruca, more contemporary than Urban,” and credited himself for being the only person who pays attention to the development of black talent.
