Jim Ross Says AEW Contract Is Still Set To Expire This Month

Jim Ross updates fans on his future.
Back in May, Ross updated the world on the status of his AEW contract, saying that it expires sometime in August. On the latest episode of Grilling JR, Ross noted that he wants the end of his career to be planned.
“I hope that my ending, my career ending is planned, so I just don’t show up one Wednesday night on Dynamite and say, ‘Well, I got some news for you folks, I’m done.’ That might sound cool and edgy, but I would like to be able to know that I’m leaving. I think that’s important for my psyche. Maybe I’m looking at it wrongly, but in any event, that’s what I’m thinking. Just to have a good, clean ending. If I can pull that off — I’ve done everything else. I’ve done every major event for every major promoter of the last how many years? 40? I’ve had a blessed career. I’ve been battling some health issues. I’m getting a stunt put in my brain on Wednesday. So, we’ll see how that works out, no pun intended. I’ve had a unique life and I realize that it’s coming to an end, I get it.”
Continuing on, Ross implied that his AEW contract has not been renewed yet. But, if it’s time for him to bow out, Ross is okay with that.
“If you ask me, JR, how much longer do you think you’re going to do announcing — well, I think my contract is up this month. I’m done just pretty much. I don’t want to be done, but if Tony Khan said, ‘JR, thanks for the efforts and thanks for being here’, then I would have no problem with that. How could I be such a greedy bastard and want more in my career than I’ve already received. Sometimes, you get stumbled on to a great job and a great career. My career as a wrestling broadcaster has been nothing but wonderful.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Jim Ross revealed that he’ll undergo brain surgery on Wednesday, August 12. Check out his full comments on the matter here.
