He noted that he heard from former AEW Vice President of Live Events and Touring, Rafael Morffi, that Ross' surgery was a success and the cancer had been removed. On the aforementioned podcast on 5/26, Ross referred to Morffi as his 'son' when discussing their relationship.

Thompson wrote:

Just heard from @rmorfnyc that JR’s surgery went well and they hope to have successfully removed all of his cancer this morning! Please keep @JRsBBQ in your thoughts and prayers as he begins his recovery!

Ross stated that he expects to be in the hospital for six days. He added that he is not retiring from commentary and is not ruling out an AEW All In Texas appearance.
