He did not realize how bad it looked until he watched it back.
A clip of Jimmy Jacobs often pops up on social media from when he wrestled B.J. Whitmer at ROH Dragon Gate Challenge in 2006.
As their match was ongoing, Whitmer and Jacobs were on the top rope, and Whitmer lifted Jacobs to powerbomb him. Whitmer misplaced his foot, and he and Jacobs went to the outside of the ring. Jacobs' head hit the ropes and the apron on the way down, but he narrowly avoided injury.
While guest appearing on Café De René, Jacobs said he did not realize how bad it looked until he watched the tape back. Jacobs and Whitmer recreated the spot when they wrestled at ROH 'In Your Face' in 2006. That time, Whitmer lifted Jacobs for a powerbomb off the top rope and sent them both into the crowd. Jacobs shared that there were plants in the audience ready to catch them.
“B.J. (Whitmer) and I, we had a tag team in Ring of Honor and had a good feud and we were doing a spot where we’re both on the top rope. It was an old EZ Money/Kid Kash spot. Top rope, powerbomb, flip it into the ‘rana and we’re up there and he slips backwards. It’s like the craziest f*cking bump. He slips backwards and basically powerbombs me. My head hits the top rope, middle rope, bottom rope, apron. It looked like we f*cking died. It’s a crazy one… It wasn’t intentional. It looked like we both f*cking died. I was fine. Once I saw the tape -- and it was tapes back in those days -- once I saw the tape, I was like, ‘Oh my God, I almost died there. That was really close.’ To follow that up, the next match we did, it was in New York. We were both on the top rope, facing the crowd and he powerbombed me over the guardrail. He jumps with me and we both f*cking go over the guardrail into the f*cking people and then we had plants there to catch us. It was risky if we f*cked it up. But it was super safe but it looks awesome because it’s like powerbomb off the top rope, over the guardrail into just a sea of people and just we disappear. So which is to say, look, I did some stuff that wasn’t necessarily smart. But, I tried not to be flippant about it. They were calculated risks…”
In 2024, Whitmer received five years' probation and a 120-day home incarceration order for a domestic violence case.
