Jimmy Jacobs: Vince McMahon Will Never Hire Another Independent Wrestler For The Writing Team

WWE has a rich history of hiring top independent wrestlers to compete in the ring or serve as trainers for the company.

In 2015, the company hired Jimmy Jacobs, who rose to prominence on the independent scene years prior, to be part of the creative writing team. Jacobs was fired in 2017 and he believes WWE won't make the mistake of hiring an indie wrestler for the writing team again.

The Elite: We're Getting AEW Back To What It Was Supposed To Be

"I had a certain aptitude for storytelling and wrestling. I was the first real wrestler to be a writer there," Jacobs said in an interview with TWC Show. "There are other guys on the creative team like Road Dogg, but he's not getting into the weeds like writers get into and putting pen to paper. I was the first one to do that. It helped in that, I knew a lot of the guys and was friends with a lot of the guys and they trusted me. It's helpful to have a relationship with talent and they want to collaborate with you and they want your ideas. I think it helped me. I think Vince will never ever ever hire another Independent wrestler to be on the writing team again after I got fired."

Since leaving WWE, Jacobs has landed in IMPACT Wrestling where he serves as a member of the creative team.

Elsewhere during the podcast, Jacobs revealed he would return to WWE as a promo coach at the WWE Performance Center, but wouldn't work for Vince McMahon. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
