Jody Threat comments on her recent match with Mercedes Mone.
Mone captured the WPW Women’s Championship at WPW Rumble in the Burt, defeating Jody Threat to add yet another piece of championship gold to her collection, marking her twelfth championship in her latest run.
While speaking to WhatCulture in a new interview, Jody Threat was asked about her match with Mone at WPW Rumble In The Burt, noting that the situation was ‘such a beautiful thing’.
“I think that that situation, was such a beautiful thing, just story-wise, business-wise, my development-wise. I have been their big baby face since the beginning. I was their first women’s champion. That company positioned me in a spot where I’m seen as the face of the company. So to be in a situation where we’re doing the biggest show of the year with the biggest attendance that they’ve ever drawn with someone with like millions of followers, like not thousands, millions of followers, bringing that attention to a company that has worked so hard for so long with such integrity is such a great thing. Also, when you have someone with that star power coming into a company, sometimes they overshine those that are local. Although maybe they aren’t the good guy and are trying to enlist boos, they might get cheers. But because of the loyalty of the WPW fans, they had my back the whole time cheering. So we were able to really tell a very cool story and in the way that we wanted it to. Like that outsider came in, she got booed even though she had millions of followers. With such a crazy resume in wrestling, but those fans just being so loyal to me, making sure that she knew she knew she wasn’t going to get those tears. If you haven’t watched it, like I would love for anyone to watch it because I’m very proud of the match and I’m very proud of WPW and what they built and what we were able to create there. I won’t give away the ending, but even the very cool opportunity. I’m so glad that it happened at that company.”
Earlier this year, Jody trained with Trish Stratus before her WWE Royal Rumble appearance. You can read more about that here.
