Joe Gacy beat Shawn Spears in spite of Spears having some unlikely help.
Gacy bested Spears on the Countdown Show to WWE NXT Stand & Deliver 2024. This was all in spite of the fact that Ridge Holland, who had been acting as a host during the preview show, hit Gacy with a steel chair in the back during Gacy's entrance with no explanation given.
Holland had just stated that he was going to step away from the wrestling ring due to a crisis of confidence and his inability to control his temper. His temper has been preyed upon by Spears since Spears returned to NXT.

Still, Joe Gacy was able to hit his springboard handspring Lariat to defeat the man formerly known as Tye Dillinger.
