Joey Janela Believes JCW J-Cup Will Be Talked About Similar To PWG Battle Of Los Angeles

After a nine-year hiatus, The Jersey J-Cup returns on Saturday, February 11 with a lineup that features "Speedball" Mike Bailey, Jonathan Gresham, Billie Starkz, Alex Shelley, Alec Price, Joey Janela, and more.

In the past, the J-Cup has been one of the top tournaments in independent wrestling with a winners list that includes Low Ki and Jay Lethal, and a competitors list featuring CM Punk, Bryan Danielson, and AJ Styles.

Joey Janela, a veteran of many tournaments, has high hopes for the J-Cup as it looks to re-established itself as the premier independent wrestling tournament.

"It's going back to its roots. It's a big tournament, a big deal, it's a grueling tournament. It's the most frueling tournament in wrestling in a very long time. Usually, matches are spread out among two or three days. This is one day, four rounds. I'm beat up. My back is smashed, my neck is smashed. Who knows. I could be out in the first round, I could make it to the finals. It's the upper echelon of Indie wrestling in that tournament. I think it's going to be a hit and it's going to be something that people talk about like they talk about Battle of Los Angeles in a few years," Janela told Fightful.

Janela is set to face Starboy Charlie in the first round. At just 20 years old, Charlie has quickly become one of the top names in independent wrestling. Janela defeated Charlie in July 2022, shortly after Charlie had recovered from a leg injury. Janela expects a different match this time around.

"Starboy Charlie, he's a tough kid, he was coming off an injury when I wrestled him last time. We got to do some tag team stuff in LA. This match is going to be a little different, it's going to be a little tougher for me this time because he's got his footing back in the ring, but you're in New Jersey, you're wrestling Joey Janela at the J-Cup. Expect a beating," said Janela.

The winner of the J-Cup will be crowned the new JCW Champion. JCW J-Cup will air in two sessions on Saturday, February 11. The events will stream on FITE Plus.

Fightful will have coverage of the J-Cup on Saturday.
