Joey Janela Says That Every One Of His Indie Opponents This Summer Were Tested For COVID-19

Joey Janela explains his stance on GCW’s COVID-19 protocols.

2020 provided a whole new set of challenges for independent wrestling. The global coronavirus pandemic not only forced a lot of bookings to be scrapped but many promoters and promotions had to think outside the box when it comes to presentation due to social distancing guidelines and safety protocols.

Recently, Game Changer Wrestling ran The Collective. The Collective was a set of 12 independent wrestling shows that took place over the course of one weekend and Indianapolis, Indiana. Joey Janela, an AEW star and self-professed Game Changer Wrestling locker room leader, recently took to Twitter to explain his stance on the GCW COVID-19 protocols following a few wrestlers who worked the events testing positive for the virus.

Joey explained that every one of his matches on the independent scene has had tested opponents and referees and this was stated in guidelines from “his employer” and he says he will make sure going forward that everyone has tested negative before wrestling on a GCW event. 

Joey would also emphasize that 85% of those who wrestled on The Collective have gotten the results back and are healthy.
