John Cena has lined up his next movie role.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Cena and Oscar Winner Kathy Bates have joined the upcoming political thriller, The Independent. The film also stars Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim) and Brian Cox (Succession). The Emmy-nominated Amy Rice (HBO’s By The People: The Election of Barack Obama) is set to direct.

According to the report, Bates will play the first female presidential candidate, while Cena, listed as joint lead with Turner-Smith, plays an independent presidential candidate.
In addition to his return to WWE for SummerSlam, Cena has been busy on the silver screen this year, appearing in F9: The Fast Saga, The Suicide Squad and Vacation Friends. Next up for the 16-time WWE Champion is a reprisal of Suicide Squad role in the upcoming HBO Max series Peacemaker, followed by Matthew Vaughn’s spy thriller, Argylle.
