Over the months that he was gone, Cena made China his home and updated his fans across the world on how he was doing through Twitter and WWE.com videos. Later this month as a part of WWE's holiday tour, Cena is scheduled to make his return at the Madison Square Garden house show the day after Christmas and on live events scattered throughout WrestleMania season

Cena recently accepted Sports Illustrated's Muhammad Ali Legacy Award and to promote this honor Cena did an interview with S.I.'s Dan Greene and during the interview Cena shared that he will do whatever it takes to make sure that his successor is the next big star in WWE and compared his current situation to a relay race:

"It's a giant relay race, and I'm in the phase where I'm handing the stick off," he says. "My time is up. Someone else's time is now."
