John Cena Discusses Dominik Mysterio: “He Reminds Me A Lot Of Me… I Can See All Of The Mistakes That Are About To Happen With Him”

Before the 11/17 Monday Night Raw at Madison Square Garden went live on Netflix, John Cena sat down with Megan Morant and Sam Roberts to record an episode of the Raw Recap podcast.

Cena dove into defeating Dominik Mysterio to become the new WWE Intercontinental Champion. He then shared that he’s grateful to have shared the ring with Dominik, adding that he respects and admires the reigning AAA Mega Champion. Cena said Dominik reminds him of himself and some of the mistakes Cena made.

“What an awesome opportunity and I just came from Liverpool. Did two days there at a convention over the weekend and so many people — again, incredibly grateful for the ability to get in there with Dom Mysterio, who I respect and admire. He reminds me a lot of me and he reminds me a lot of the mistakes I made. I can see all of the mistakes that are about to happen with him, and I wanna shake him and be like, you’re gonna do this! But I want him to learn for himself. But he is authentic, he’s reliable, he works hard and he’s passionate about the business. He’ll figure the rest out. But what a chance, in Boston, to have a championship match, and because it’s not what Stone Cold would do,” Cena said in reference to Sam Roberts jokingly mentioning that The Rock, Steve Austin, and The Undertaker did not win a title on their way out the door. “Like, yeah, yeah, I’d like that match. It can be done your own way. There’s no right way to be a success in this business. It’s just take opportunities as they come and I got a cool opportunity to do something special and man, it was a special moment so thank you for that bringing that up.”

In the opening segment of the 11/17 Raw, it was made official that Mysterio is getting his rematch against Cena. The two will clash for the Intercontinental Title in Dominik’s home city of San Diego, California, at Survivor Series: WarGames.
