John Cena Embraced Being Himself When 'Prank Call John Cena' Started

AND HIS NAME IS JOHN CENA!

Nearly a decade ago, Z Morning Zoo did a prank phone call using John Cena's theme promoting a fake wrestling event. The prank call became a famous meme and it helped changed Cena's perspective on things.

While Cena has accomplished many things outside of his wrestling career, people still want him to be John Cena.

"I would say 99 times out of a hundred, that happens," Cena told Esquire when asked if people say "Where is 'John Cena'?" when he enters a room. "And I know there are some people who get apprehensive about that because you do something well and people recognize you. That's great, but I think a lot of people don't have the perspective of, like, there's more than that to who I am. I went through a brief period of [being bothered] maybe ten, twelve years ago, but right when all the “Prank Call John Cena” started, the “Uninterrupted John Cena Meme,” I embraced all that stuff. I'm never apprehensive about that. I get apprehensive when people don't treat you like a human being, when they treat you like an object. I think that's just not a way to go about interacting with other people."

Cena has played the role of The Peacemaker in recent times, dressing up as the character to promote the series, which currently airs on HBO Max.

While making the media rounds during the week, Cena commented on missing being a full-time performer. You can find his full comments by clicking here.
