John Cena: I Thought Firefly Fun House Was Going To Be My Last Match
John Cena competed in his last match in December 2025 at WWE Saturday Night’s Main Event, losing to Gunther.
Cena went on a year-long retirement tour in 2025, which featured him headlining WrestleMania, turning heel, revisiting old rivalries, and more.
Speaking to Alistair McGeorge of Metro, Cena revealed that he thought his last match would come sooner than did it.
“Honestly, no kidding. I thought the Firefly Fun House was going to be the last match of my career,” he said. “I really did think that the Firefly Fun House match was going to be the tail end, and that was kind of a meta journey for me through facing all of my demons, and then letting go.”
Along with the pandemic, Cena was filming “Fast 9” and “The Barbie Movie.” His commitments kept him out of WWE for 16 months.
John Cena and Bray Wyatt were scheduled to face at WrestleMania 36, but the pandemic turned the match into a cinematic experience.
Cena remains involved with WWE as an ambassador.
