John Cena: I Want This Tour To Be An Opportunity For The Future

John Cena is set to compete in his last match on December 13, with only two more appearances left before his final date.
Cena’s last opponent will be decided in the Last Time is Now tournament, which is currently ongoing.
Appearing on ESPN First Take, Cena was asked about the tournament.
“A lot of folks are like, ‘Who do you want to face? Who does John Cena want to face?’ The way I got my start at WWE was a random opportunity. I got my first match because Undertaker was sick. I love the theory of opportunity. I believe in the meritocracy of WWE. I don’t want to face or handpick anyone. I want people to get a chance to showcase their skills and earn the right for an opportunity. In doing this with a bunch of top superstars and random entrants, even against all odds opponents, they have the chance to see if they can make it to retire John Cena, which is a really special thing. On the actual retirement night, it isn’t just a show about me. I’m using the time and eyeballs on the show to give some of the NXT superstars a showcase. I want this tour to be an opportunity for the future and pave the way for the future because that’s what the class before did for me,” he said.
Cena is the reigning WWE Intercontinental Champion. He is set to appear on Monday’s WWE Raw.
