John Cena Joins the Family in First 'Fast 9' Trailer

Universal Studios has released the first trailer for their upcoming film, Fast 9.

The studio debuted the footage during their "Road To" concert, which featured musical performances by Cardi B, Wiz Khalifa, Charlie Puth, Ozuna, and Ludacris. During the event, WWE Superstar John Cena spoke about his experience on set, emphasizing what a huge honour it was to join a legacy franchise.

After an hour of songs, interviews, and featurettes, host Maria Menounos brought Vin Diesel on stage to give everyone their first glimpse at the movie.

The trailer offers up the usual physics-defying stunts and humour that this saga has become known for, but it was the foreboding sense of dread at the beginning that sets the tone for these characters' journeys. The man at the center of that feeling is none other than John Cena. It is revealed early on that Cena will not only be playing Vin Diesel's adversary, but also his little brother. He is presented as Dom's better in nearly every way, and with the help of a returning Charlize Theron, has his sights set on destroying the Toretto clan.

Theron isn't the only returning face, however, as Sung Kang makes a surprise re-appearance during the last few seconds. It remains to be seen how Han Seoul-Oh will be brought back to life by the same director who killed him off six years ago. Speaking of which, Justin Lin is returning to the Fast Saga for the fifth time (last helming Fast & Furious 6). He is working off a script from Daniel Casey (Kin), who took over Chris Morgan's duties when he left to work on Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's spin-off Hobbs & Shaw.

Fast 9 hits theatres on May 22, 2020. The trailer can be seen above, via Universal Studios.
