The roles continue to pile up for John Cena.

According to Deadline, Cena is in negotiations to star in 'Freelance,' an action-comedy film from 'Taken' director Pierre Morel. AGC Studios will be looking to sell the project at the upcoming virtual American Film Market (AFM).

Estimated to have a budget of around $40 million, 'Freelance' is scheduled to start filming early next year in Colombia. No additional casting announcements have been made. Morel will be working off a script from Jacob Lentz (Jimmy Kimmel Live!), who is making his feature writing debut.

The report provided the following synopsis for the film:

'Freelance' follows a special forces operator (Cena) who decides to retire from the Army and start a family back in the states. After several years of mortgage payments, school drop-offs, backyard barbecues and trying to conform to life in suburbia, he decides to come out of retirement to take a gig providing security for a female journalist as she interviews a cruel dictator who may or may not have ordered the attack on him and his men. When a military coup breaks out in the middle of the interview, the three are forced to escape into the jungle where they must survive the elements, the military and one another.

In addition to 'Freelance,' should it happen, Cena is also set to appear in HBO Max's 'Peacemaker,' 'Fast and the Furious 10,' and a 'Vacation Friends' sequel.

Cena last appeared on WWE programming at SummerSlam, losing to Roman Reigns in a Universal Championship match.

Fightful will continue to provide updates on 'Freelance' as they become available.
