At WWE SummerSlam night two, Cena would lose his WWE championship to Brock Lesnar, with Cody Rhodes defeating him for the title in a street fight. After Cody left the ring to Cena, Brock Lesnar’s music would hit as Lesnar walked down to the ring and hit an F5 on Cena.
While speaking to Adam’s Apple in a new interview, Cena was asked about Lesnar’s return and the reaction from fans. Cena would respond that while WWE deals his opponents, he just plays them. Cena also noted that WWE have to continue programming after he’s gone.
“I’ve been saying the same thing for 25 years. They deal ’em, I play ’em. I’m just really excited. We’ve got like 12 of these things left. I think SummerSlam was an indication from the audience where everybody kind of knows where we’re closing our book, and just because I close my book in December, that doesn’t mean the WWE closes its book. They got to continue their programming going forward. So they’re just trying to make the most exciting shows for the fans. A dozen of them (appearances) I got left. They deal ‘em, I play ‘em.”
