John Cena Recalls Sleeping In His Car While Trying To Make It In Los Angeles In 1991

John Cena is currently making a career for himself and Hollywood, but his first foray into the City of Angels wasn't initially as fruitful.

John Cena is one of the starring actors in F9 and while he is currently enjoying success in a wide variety of roles in the entertainment industry, the 16-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion once moved out to Los Angeles, initially in search of fame as a bodybuilder, and quickly ended up falling on hard times because of job working in a gym did not pay him enough.

“I slept in my car for a while, which happened to be a very roomy 1991 Lincoln Town Car,” John Cena revealed to Grant Rollings of The Sun. “I had my clothes in the trunk and I slept in the back seat. I’d wake up, use the locker rooms and the shower and repeat the process all over again.”

John also had another motivation. His father, John “Johnny Fabulous” Cena Sr., had previously told John that he wouldn't make it in LA and would be back in Massachusetts within two weeks with nothing but regret for his decision to venture out. Always believing in the hustle, John Cena did not want to return home having failed.

“Dad told me I would be home with my tail between my legs in two weeks. Sure enough, I went through my resources quickly and had to think on my feet. I didn’t want to go home crying,” said John.

After one of the most definitive runs at the top of WWE any superstar has ever had, John is now trying his hand in Hollywood and while he is successful, John says he is more than ready for his next WWE match. WWE is hopeful that that match will take place at SummerSlam. Learn more here.
