John Cena Says He Asked Claudio Castagnoli To Borrow Moves For Logan Paul Match, Told Logan To Study Claudio
John Cena paid tribute to many of his rivals and friends throughout his retirement tour, using moves or mannerisms throughout his matches if he was unable to interact with them.
Against Logan Paul, Claudio Castagnoli (Cesaro in WWE) was referenced through various moves. Though Cena and Claudio didn’t have a major rivalry in WWE, they are good friends and part of a coffee group chat with Seth Rollins.
Speaking to TJ Henderson & O’Shea Jackson Jr on No-Contest Wrestling, Cena revealed how Claudio helped with the Logan match.
“With Logan, he doesn’t have that many matches to go on. A lot of stuff he was doing was viral moments. ‘I need something more than that.’ We never left the ring. I saw Logan and I’m like, ‘You look and work like Cesaro.’ I called Claudio, ‘Can I borrow some stuff, please?’ ‘Are you kidding me?’ He’s part of the coffee group. ‘No problem. I can’t be there. It would be an honor.’ I’m like, ‘Logan, watch this guy. These are things I think you can do.’ I’m sending him modified clips of the super European (uppercut), the giant swing, all things I thought Cesaro did well that I think Logan can do well. ‘This might help you wih you style. Get more stuff.’ Take it from Five Moves of Doom, there is going to come a time where you need more stuff,” Cena joked.
Cena was victorious in the match against Logan.
Elsewhere during the interview, Cena revealed he was supposed to face Drew McIntyre during his retirement tour. You can learn more here.
