John Cena: The Locker Room Today Doesn’t Need A Spokesperson Because Everyone Is Professional

John Cena comments on the current state of the WWE locker room and looks back on how things used to be.

For decades, The Undertaker was the locker room leader in WWE, earning the respect of his peers and effectively policing his fellow superstars.

Speaking to Bill Simmons on The Ringer podcast, Cena was asked about the leadership of The Undertaker.

“The most respected person,” said Cena.

Asked if his name is still mentioned in the locker room as someone you want to make sure you’re doing right by, Cena replied, “Until recently, and even still, his name still carries weight. I’m so grateful to have experienced phases of the business. I’m so happy for where it is now. The locker room, essentially, doesn’t need a spokesperson because all of our people are professionals. It’s not like pirates or herding cats. We don’t need an eternal police force because we’re all professionals. That being said, a lot of the fraternity and bonds, which led to great programming, that stuff has disssolved. You want to look back and romanticize how things were, but how things were, ‘You better get a $200 advance on tonight’s show because you’re not going to get paid.’ I had fun and great times being welcomed into that fraternal business. He was very instrumental in that.”

Elsewhere during the interview, Cena revealed that he had his first drink with the Undertaker when he was 26. You can find his full comments here.

Cena will have his last match on December 13th against Gunther.
