John Cena made his WWE debut on the June 27, 2002 episode of WWE SmackDown, answering a challenge put out by Kurt Angle.
When Angle asked Cena what made him special, he stated, "Ruthless Aggression!" and slapped Angle. Though it was a strong debut for the future seventeen-time champion, it wasn't until he became the Dr. of Thuganomics that he started to ascend.
"The time period I wish I had a do-over for was the ruthless aggression character. I did nothing with it," Cena stated at the Philadelphia Fan Expo panel.
Cena has often said that he was on the chopping block until he began to rap and impressed Stephanie McMahon.
The rest is history.
Cena is the reigning Undisputed WWE Champion, winning the title from Cody Rhodes at WWE WrestleMania 41.
