John Hennigan, who wrestled in WWE from 2004 to 2011 under the ring name John Morrison, and who is currently signed to Lucha Underground as Johnny Mundo, is currently one of the headliners on the first ever Lucha Underground Live Event tour. They've had dates in Arizona and Texas.
Hennigan recently took time out of his schedule to address the rumors of a possible return to WWE. “At the end of 2011, I left WWE and we both just decided to part ways. I just didn’t re-sign my contracts, and since then it’s always been something that I’ve had a good relationship with them. We’ve had plenty of talks about going back; we just never ended up seeing eye-to-eye," said Hennigan.
There was a rumor going around that WWE was looking to bring in a few stars from LU to participate in the Cruiserweight Classic last summer, but the performers' contracts would not allow it. Hennigan talked about these rumors as well.
"As far as going back for the Cruiserweight (Classic), that was never going to happen. I’m signed with Lucha Underground, I’m really happy here, and I think that Lucha Underground is really becoming something, and it’s cooler for me to be a part of building something at this point in my career, (instead of) just jumping ship,” he explained.
Johnny Mundo is currently the Gift of the Gods Champion in Season 3 of Lucha Underground, which means he has a guaranteed shot at the Lucha Underground Championship whenever he chooses. Lucha Underground airs Wednesday nights at 8/7c on The El Rey Network.
