EC3 and Johnny Gargano last had a singles match at Evolve in 2016.
After NXT Takeover: Chicago, NXT General Manager William Regal made the decision that Johnny Gargano and Tommaso Ciampa need to be given a new direction at NXT. Ciampa has began to bicker with NXT Champion Aleister Black on Twitter and he challenged Black to a match on this week's episode of NXT.
Regal tweeted that Gargano will be moving on as well to a match with EC3.
A month ago, EC3 beat Fabian Aichner and during the match Johnny Gargano unceremoniously went to the commentary team to present them with a match contract. EC3 seemed unbothered at the time as you can see in the video at the top of this page.
