Johnny Gargano had the meanest thing to say about NXT.
As a native of Cleveland, Ohio, Gargano takes a lot of pride in his city. And while some view Cleveland as an underdog sports town, most view Cleveland as....Cleveland. Aside from LeBron James leading the greatest comeback in NBA history, sports teams in Cleveland haven't had a lot of success over the years. Their failures as a sports town are highlights by the Browns, who have been the laughing stock of the NFL for nearly three decades. Despite this, Gargano has nothing but love for his hometown team.
Speaking to WKYC, Gargano, in an attempt to compliment NXT, compared the yellow brand to the city of Cleveland and the Browns.
“I think NXT is kind of like the Cleveland, Ohio of professional wrestling,” said Gargano. “We’re that underdog whose hungry, who’s always out to prove people wrong, and that’s kind of what our locker room represents.
“We’ve got a bunch of guys who have been traveling around the world for over 10 years, scratching and clawing, fighting, just trying to live their dream, just trying to prove people wrong, just trying to show that we belong, and that’s kind of the essence of NXT. We’re young, we’re hungry and we’re ready to show the world that we’re the best at what we do. We’re kind of like the Cleveland Browns right now.”
In fairness to Gargano, the Browns might be poised for a breakout season thanks to Baker Mayfield and the recent acquisition of Odell Beckham Jr. Then again, they are the Browns.
