Jordan Myles unhappy over WWE t-shirt.
Jordan Myles took to social media to express his unhappiness over a WWE shop shirt that was released in September. The shirt had Myles' name in large white letters on a red background, depicting a smile, a nod to Myles' on-screen gimmick. Myles called out the shirt for its racist connotation, calling it a "slap in the face to EVERY African American performer, fan, and supporter."
I will keep posting this till my voice is heard. I’m not sorry for anything I say or do.— Jordan Myles (@GoGoMyles) October 27, 2019
Representation is important.
If this is @VinceMcMahon & @TripleH “vision” of me then this is a slap in the face to EVERY African American performer, fan, and supporter. pic.twitter.com/S6Gtg9e4lP
I’ve used this shirt as fuel. I knew the shirt existed and my soul hasn’t been able to rest properly since I’ve laid eyes on it. My voice will be heard... my true opinion will be heard.. and MY PEOPLE will have their moment. https://t.co/uMErUAGr43— Jordan Myles (@GoGoMyles) October 27, 2019
THEY will learn to regret after this. I promise you.. https://t.co/jvXcTM15Fq— Jordan Myles (@GoGoMyles) October 27, 2019
Nothing poor about my soul.— Jordan Myles (@GoGoMyles) October 27, 2019
This shirt is what’s wrong with America and the wrestling industry. https://t.co/RubgtSRxe1
Myles also retweeted the following tweet, showing the potential reference that the smiling logo design was taken from.
You sound ignorant as hell and the bad part people like you know EXACTLY what the fuck you’re saying when saying this shit. This isn’t ok at all he’s not putting on nor selling the fucking shirt faceless ass fucknigaa THIS is where they got the design from: pic.twitter.com/aiP2qhLz7e— This World Isnt For Nuiance (@ethernwornvr) October 27, 2019
The image comes from photographer David Levinthal's Blackface series.
The shirt has since been pulled from the WWE shop, and as of this writing, Myles has no shirts in the shop. However, he does have a shirt listed on WWE's custom tees shop. The new shirt has a more Looney Tunes style logo with Myles' name in front of a red oval background. But the change did not satisfy Myles.
Does it matter if the shirt was replace? The FACT that they even made the first one overshadows anything till WE get what we deserve. https://t.co/mLjKeUDNNt— Jordan Myles (@GoGoMyles) October 27, 2019
Myles won the 2019 NXT Breakout Tournament but has not been used on NXT television since losing to Adam Cole on the Aug. 15 episode of the show.
