Lothario spent the majority of his career in the National Wrestling Alliance, where he won the NWA World Tag Team Titles in Florida and San Francisco. He is best known during his wrestling days for his feud with Gino Hernandez. The two battled in a hair vs. hair bout in November 1978, which was won by Lothario.

To newer fans, Lothario is most recognized as the trainer of Shawn Michaels. Lothario appeared on WWE television ahead of WrestleMania 12, cornering Michaels for his Iron Man Match against Bret Hart. Lothario was by Michaels' side throughout his 1996 World Title reign. Lothario defeated Jim Cornette at In Your House 10: Mind Games.
