In brief comments to the organization, Barnett expressed his excitement and pride in being asked to help train the Young Lions. Barnett also said he was excited to continue the work of his teacher, Karl Gotch.

"It’s an honour for me to be a guest coach in the New Japan Dojo, continuing a lineage of development that goes back to the work of my own teacher Karl Gotch,’ remarked Barnett. ‘I’m looking forward to seeing NJPW’s strength at its source, and to impart the same catch as catch can style that is my background and that of so many legends."

Josh Barnett frequently hosts the Bloodsport events in both Japan and America and has been a commentator for New Japan in the past.
